Clapton's intimate acoustic concert in sound and vision
Like many other fellow musicians, Eric Clapton had to cancel several concerts last year and this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.
In order to still offer his fans something, the British singer and guitarist instead met up with his band, bassist and backing vocalist Nathan East, drummer Steve Gadd and keyboardist Chris Stainton, at Cowdray House in West Sussex, England, to record what was originally planned as a kind of sequel to his successful 1992 album "MTV Unplugged": his new concert album "The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions".
At this intimate gig, only the participants themselves were present while the cameras and recording equipment were rolling.

the band recorded 17 songs for the album, acoustic interpretations of their own songs and a number of other numbers from blues, rock and country. Included are Clapton originals such as "Layla" and "Tears In Heaven", "After Midnight", "Bell Bottom Blues", "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" and "Key To The Highway", blues standards such as "Rock Me Baby" and cover versions of songs that have shaped Mr. Slowhand throughout his career, for example the Feetwood Mac songs "Black Magic Woman" and "Man Of The World" from the Peter Green era. The whole thing was recorded under the direction of Clapton's longtime Grammy-winning producer Russ Titelman (James Taylor, George Harrison, Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones), who had already produced "MTV Unplugged".
"The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions" will be released in various formats: as a standard CD, DVD or Blu-ray, as a set with CD and DVD or CD and Blu-ray, on Blu-ray + Ultra HD Blu-ray and as a set with CD, DVD and Blu-ray, packaged in a 40-page, 12ʺ × 12ʺ bound photo book. Record fans can look forward to the double CD on black vinyl and the limited edition double LP on translucent yellow vinyl.
The 17 songs on "The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions" feature Clapton and his longtime bandmates Nathan East (bass and vocals), Steve Gadd (drums) and Chris Stainton (keyboards) performing acoustic renditions of Clapton standards and a range of other numbers that include blues, country and rare originals.
The project was launched after Eric Clapton had to cancel his concerts at the Royal Albert Hall scheduled for May 2021. In search of an alternative, he retreated with his band to the English countryside and staged a concert with only the participants themselves present while the cameras were rolling. The result is far more than just a string of greatest hits. Rather, it's one of the most intimate and authentic performances of Clapton's entire career, an offering that provides a real insight into the composition of his stunning catalog.
Directed by Clapton's legendary, longtime Grammy-winning producer Russ Titelman (James Taylor, George Harrison, Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones) and recorded live at Cowdray House in West Sussex, England, Clapton and Co. reinterpret these timeless classics: "After Midnight," "Layla," "Bell Bottom Blues," "Tears in Heaven," "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" and "Key to the Highway." Clapton and his crew not only revisit some of Eric's most popular songs from his own extensive repertoire, but also offer their own versions of songs that had a profound impact on his career and that of his contemporaries, including the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac tracks, "Black Magic Woman" and "Man of the World".
"The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions" will be released as a 2LP in an exclusive Gold Edition for Germany only and is limited to 3000 units.
